Elene Rusietskaia, the chairwoman of the board of the Women's Information Center, took part in the XVI Congress of Polish Women. The congress was held in Poland on September 28-29 and focused on issues such as the role of women in building the future. The main slogan of the congress was "The World Seen Through the Eyes of Women."
This year, representatives from Georgia—including Elene Rusietskaia and activist Samira Bairamova—participated in the event. As members of the transnational iCHANGE network, they met with Tea Jaliashvili, the first deputy director of ODIHR. The meeting was conducted in a dialogue format and addressed the current situation regarding the protection of women's rights and gender equality in Georgia.
The Georgian representatives also spoke at a plenary session held during the congress, sharing their work experiences with the attendees.
Approximately 4,000 delegates participated in this year’s congress. The agenda included plenary sessions, dozens of parallel sessions, exhibitions, and networking events, covering topics such as women's rights in modern Poland, the role of women in building a contemporary egalitarian society, a sustainable economy, and strong local government sensitive to environmental issues and gender equality. Security issues were also discussed in light of growing threats, both external (armed conflict) and internal (populism and conservative backlash).
