Open Day on Women, Peace and Security – 2025
2025-11-26 16:11:18

UN Women held an Open Day on Women, Peace and Security, a gathering of special significance this year as 2025 marked the 25th anniversary of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 (2000).

As in previous years, the event brought together UN entities and civil society representatives, displaced and conflict-affected women and youth, to facilitate dialogue and exchange information on key issues related to women’s rights, peace, and security.

Representatives from women’s rights organizations, internally displaced and conflict-affected women and youth attended.

Special attention was given to internally displaced and conflict-affected women, who shared their lived experiences and presented community‑based initiatives designed to respond to their real and pressing needs.

At the same time, leaders of civil society organizations working on the local implementation of the WPS agenda in Georgia reflected on both achievements and challenges, offering their perspectives for future practical recommendations.

Ambassadors from various countries in Georgia spoke about the support initiatives they provide to effectively implement the Women, Peace and Security agenda.

These contributions clearly underscored the critical role women play in conflict prevention and peacebuilding, demonstrating how their agency at the community level translates into real and sustainable change. The event also featured reflections from both domestic and international stakeholders. Ambassadors and other diplomatic figures shared how the Women, Peace and Security agenda is being implemented successfully in different contexts.

The hybrid format of the event allowed for broad participation, connecting local voices with the international community. At the close of the day, UN Women consolidated the views and proposals presented, emphasising once again that women’s voices, their experience, and their community-level initiatives are essential for localizing the global agenda and strengthening women’s meaningful participation in peace and security processes.

This year’s Open Day reaffirmed that the implementation of the Women, Peace and Security agenda is not only a matter of international importance but is deeply relevant for local communities. It offers a vital space for sharing experiences, building solidarity, and creating new opportunities for action.
