On July 24, the WIC, together with Israeli ambassador Hadas Meitzad, visited the village of Chorchana in Khashuri municipality. The purpose of the visit was to strengthen intercultural cooperation and show support for women who are internally displaced (IDPs) and those living in rural areas and/or affected by conflict.

During the visit, the ambassador personally listened to the needs of the ABL village residents. The meeting provided an opportunity for local women to openly discuss the issues they face and require advocacy. Several social and infrastructural problems were highlighted, including the lack of drinking water, limited internet access, and unstable phone frequency.

Following the needs assessment, the meeting continued in a relaxed and informal atmosphere. Chorchana women introduced Hadas to Georgian traditions and daily agricultural activities, offering her a taste of local bio-products. Moreover, the ambassador and the head of the board of WIC, Elene Rusetskaya, actively participated in a bread-baking master class using the traditional Georgian oven known as the "Tone."

Impressed by the strength and resilience of the local women, the ambassador expressed her support for the people of Chorchana and presented them with symbolic gifts. On the other hand, WIC contributed to the development of the village's existing library by donating thematic books from their personal collection.

"It was a very important and valuable meeting for me because I met such brave, strong, and smart women. We talked about what life is like on the edge of the border and I will remember this meeting for a very long time”- Hadas Meitzad remarked.

For the ambassador, the visit to Chorchana represents a continuation of the partnership between the Embassy of Israel and WIC. The initial cooperation began in March 2023 when the ambassador invited displaced and conflict-affected women to attend the play "Days of Regret" in honor of Women's Month. This meeting laid the foundation for further strengthening the alliance between the two parties.

It is noteworthy that women leaders in the municipality acknowledged the positive changes brought about by the work of WIC and expressed hope for ongoing progress in the future.
