On 58th Session of UN Commission on the Status of Women in New York, Network of East-West Women was represented by its member, Women’s Information Center. Elene Rusetskaia and Mariam Robitashvili were actively watching after the session events, participating in conferences and side events.

In the event arranged by Global Fund for Women, where representatives of the South and North Caucasus, Russia and Middle Asia also made presentations, Elene Rusetskaia delivered a special presentation, which received positive evaluation. Event participants discussed challenges of the countries, actions and plans of NGOs and shared their experiences. As the meeting revealed, they have different working experiences, opportunities, problems and attitudes to their solution. However, common problems, such as violence against women, religious and national extremism, non-tolerance to the values of women’s movement and feminism, negative impact of existing conflicts on women’s status, their low participation in decision-making processes and necessity of developing partnership networks, identified.

Women’s Information Center took part in discussion of conclusions and drawing up of recommendations by attending NGOs.

Representatives of Women’s Information Center participated in the Session with the support of the Network of East-West Women, Swedish Foundation Kvinna till Kvinna and Global Fund for Women.
