2023-09-22 16:01:17

On September 20, a working meeting organized by the Women's Information Center was held in Sachkhere municipality to advocate the urgent needs of women and young people affected by the conflict. The meeting employed the "one window principle" methodology, which entails the coordinated efforts of all stakeholders and decision-making bodies. This approach, rooted in rights and gender equality, aims to swiftly resolve social, legal, and economic issues.

Mamuka Gachechiladze, a gender expert, chaired the meeting. Alongside Anna Nemsadze, coordinator of the security project "Women, Peace, Security," and Nino Modebadze, a board member of the "Women's Information Center," they discussed data previously researched, verified, and documented, reflecting the pressing needs of Perevi village residents.

The meeting took on an interactive format. After thematic material presentations, discussions followed in a question-and-answer style, with the involvement of local leader women actively participating in presenting the problems.

The "Women, Peace, Security" project recognizes the pivotal role of women in advocacy. Hence, their active involvement aims to amplify the voices of conflict-affected women and youth and enhance their roles in peacebuilding.

Deputy Mayor of Sachkhere Municipality, Otar Omiadze, expressed the municipality's readiness to address the identified needs as much as possible.

"The municipal government is fully prepared to address the issues identified during the meeting with ABL village Perevi residents. We will continue our efforts to resolve these issues," stated Mr. Otari.

During the meeting, the working group members discussed future cooperation prospects with attendees. For your information, the advocacy campaign for needs that couldn't be resolved during the meeting will continue at an extended session.

The working meeting was held as part of the project: "Women and Youth for the Implementation of the Women, Peace, and Security Agenda at the local level," - a coalition project of non-governmental organizations implemented in partnership with the Women’s Information Center, Women’s Fund “Sukhumi” and IDP Women Association “Consent”. The project received financial support from the UK Government's Conflict Stability and Security Fund, in collaboration with the United Nations Women's Organization.
