Ana Nemsadze, coordinator of the Women, Peace and Security Department at the Women's Information Center, attended the online session on the topic of 'Women in STEM' organized by the 'Youth Regional Network (YRN)'.

"A member of the WIC team discussed with the participants the current challenges and positive trends in this area in Georgia."

"Our Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment Committee hosted an online session to raise awareness about the challenges women face in these fields. We were honored to have two special guests, Ana Nemsadze from Georgia and Jonida Hisa from Albania, both of whom are very inspiring women in their respective fields," said the information released by the AER Youth Regional Network.

"In Georgia, like in many countries worldwide, there's a growing recognition of the importance of encouraging girls to pursue careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Despite this, challenges, including persistent stereotypes, continue to hinder their progress. Addressing these challenges requires a multi-pronged approach. Early engagement and introducing STEM concepts and activities to schoolgirls can be particularly effective. It's also valuable to explore new methods of both formal education and informal activities, which can make science and math both fun and accessible."

"I would like to emphasize the vision and strategy of our organization. At WIC, we strive to encourage girls and women interested in STEM. We run an active information campaign to inspire those who are young or just starting their careers, highlighting success stories. Our 'Women can, women act, women change' moto is a key part of this effort, aimed at breaking stereotypes. Each month, we focus on a different topic, encouraging participants to create articles, blogs, vlogs, posters, and photo stories. We have seen a number of winners produce extraordinary work. What pleases me most is the diversity of participants from various regions of Georgia."
Overall, addressing the underrepresentation of women in STEM requires the joint efforts of various stakeholders, including teachers, policymakers, parents, and the general public. Creating an inclusive environment and providing opportunities for girls in this field are essential steps toward achieving gender equality in STEM" - noted by Ana Nemsadze.
